TEN SHINING FATES PACKS SELL FOR $180 AND THE SEALED SHINING FATES ETB SELLS FOR $138.50
TL;DR: BUY the sealed Shining Fates Elite Trainer Box at $140 or less. It sold for $138.50 on TCGplayer in the week of October 19, 2026, while the ten booster packs inside it sell for $180 loose. Add more under $130. Prices observed October 23, 2026.
The Numbers Behind This Call
- Shining Fates Elite Trainer Box, standard, sealed: $138.50 TCGplayer Market Price in the week of October 19, 2026. $100.70 in the week of October 27, 2025. Peak $162.95 in the week of May 18, 2026.
- Shining Fates booster pack, loose: $18.00 TCGplayer Market Price in the week of October 19, 2026. $14.92 in the week of August 24, 2026. $11.56 in the week of October 27, 2025.
- Ten loose packs at $18.00: $180. The sealed box at $138.50 is 77 percent of that.
- Same box on eBay: 30 sales from October 13 to 21, 2026, $115.00 to $173.50, median $135.00, per the PriceCharting sales log. PriceCharting value $139.09 on October 23, 2026.
- Loose pack sales on TCGplayer, the six weeks from September 14 to October 19, 2026: 55 packs. Sealed box sales in the same six weeks: 69.
The Shining Fates ETB price is lower than the packs inside it. The standard sealed Shining Fates Elite Trainer Box had a Market Price of $138.50 on TCGplayer in the week of October 19, 2026. A single loose Shining Fates booster pack had a Market Price of $18.00 that same week. The box holds ten of them.
So ten packs sell for $180 and the box that holds them sells for $138.50. That is 77 cents on the dollar, and the box throws in a foil Eevee VMAX promo on top. Stores have noticed. The hobby chatter this week is about sellers opening sealed boxes at about $140 and selling the packs one at a time for about $190. I could not confirm that $190 figure, but the TCGplayer numbers say the trade is real.
My call is BUY. Half now at $140 or less, and the second half under $130.

What Is Inside the Box
Shining Fates came out on February 19, 2021, near the end of the Sword and Shield era. It is a shiny specialty set, with a main set and a Shiny Vault of shiny Pokemon. It is out of print, and it is now more than five years old.
The standard ETB carries ten Shining Fates booster packs, one foil Eevee VMAX promo (SWSH087) and the usual sleeves, dice and dividers. There is also a Pokemon Center version that sells separately and higher, so make sure you are really looking at the standard box when you compare prices. Every number in this piece is the standard one.
The Box Ran, Then Stalled
A year ago the Shining Fates ETB was cheap. It had a TCGplayer Market Price of $100.70 in the week of October 27, 2025 and bottomed at $93.99 in the week of December 1, 2025. Then it ran. By the week of May 18, 2026 it hit $162.95, up 61.8 percent from that October read.
It has bled since. The box read $148.12 in the week of September 7, then $139.81 in the week of September 21 and $138.50 in the week of October 19. That is down 15.0 percent from the May peak. The good news is the bleed has slowed to a crawl. Daily Market Prices from October 1 to 18 sat between $136.17 and $139.24.
The eBay sales agree. 30 copies sold from October 13 to 21, 2026 for $115.00 to $173.50, with a median of $135.00, according to PriceCharting. The high sales were cased boxes and Pokemon Center copies. A normal sealed box clears in the mid $130s right now.
The Packs Went the Other Way
While the box slid, the loose packs climbed. A Shining Fates booster pack had a TCGplayer Market Price of $11.56 in the week of October 27, 2025. It was $14.92 in the week of August 24, 2026 and $18.00 in the week of October 19. That is up 55.7 percent in a year and up 20.6 percent in eight weeks.
Most of the year the box sold a little under its packs. That is normal for an ETB, because buyers pay for convenience on single packs. The box was 87 percent of ten packs a year ago and 97 percent in the week of August 24. Only in May and June did the box sell above its packs. Today it sits at 77 percent, the widest gap in the 52 weeks I read.
This is the same pattern I keep coming back to on sealed product. I laid out why I lean on boxes over loose cards in my sealed versus singles split, and this box is a clean example of it.
Is the Shining Fates ETB a good buy right now?
Yes, the Shining Fates ETB is a buy at $140 or less. You are buying ten packs that sell for $180 loose for $138.50 sealed, and you keep the sealed premium for later. Cracking boxes only makes sense for a seller while that gap is open, and every box a store opens is one less sealed box on the market.
Here is the number nobody else is printing. Over the six weeks from September 14 to October 19, 2026, TCGplayer recorded 55 loose pack sales. That is about five and a half boxes worth of packs. In the same six weeks, 69 sealed boxes sold. So the cracking is real, but it is small, and that is exactly why the box has not caught up to its packs yet.
I have called this box a buy before, and my reasons have not changed. It is out of print sealed product from a shiny set. Is it the best set ever made? No. But it may not be a bad idea to own a box that costs less than what is inside it.
The Risk in This Buy
The shaky leg is the pack price. It jumped 20.6 percent in eight weeks on thin volume, and TCGplayer recorded zero loose pack sales in the week of October 12. If packs drop back to $15, ten of them come to $150 and the discount mostly disappears.
The box trend is the second risk. The sealed box has not posted a meaningful up week since September 7. That is why I am buying half now and not all of it. A weekly TCGplayer close under $125 means the slide has picked back up, and I pause there.

The Shining Fates Box Is a BUY at $140 or Less
My position on the standard sealed Shining Fates ETB is BUY. It sold for $138.50 on TCGplayer in the week of October 19, 2026, while the ten packs inside it sell for $180. I am buying half now at $140 or less and the second half under $130. I expect the box to close the gap to its packs as more stores open theirs, and I am holding these as a long term sealed position over the next few years.
One thing pauses the buy. A weekly TCGplayer Market close under $125 stops my buying until the box posts a higher weekly close. The risk I am carrying is a pack price that cools off before the box catches up. Bring your dated comps to our Facebook page and I will run them.
