30th Celebration Prices Are Holding After Wave 2, and the Lugia Grading Window Is Closing

I expected 30th Celebration prices to have dropped after wave 2, but they are holding, and Lugia is back over $200 raw. I support buying gradable Lugia copies now, but I think there are only 2-3 weeks left to submit to PSA and flip before PSA 10 prices take a beating.

Key Takeaways

  • 30th Celebration prices are holding after the October 2 wave 2 restock, but I still expect them to drop.
  • Raw Lugia #149/147 is $233.36, a PSA 9 is $516.08 and a PSA 10 is $2,025, per PriceCharting as of October 21, 2026.
  • I am buying gradable Lugia copies now, but I think there are only 2-3 weeks left to submit to PSA and flip before PSA 10 prices fall.
  • PSA Standard costs $59.99 per card, takes 90-100 business days and caps declared value at $1,000, so a fast Lugia flip likely needs a higher tier.
  • I am waiting on the rest of the set and not chasing raw singles or sealed at today’s prices.

Another wave of 30th Celebration product has hit shelves, and prices have barely moved. I expected the set to have started slipping by now. I still think it will.

The card that stands out is Lugia. Raw copies are back over $200, and I think a lot of that buying is from people picking up gradable copies to send to PSA. I fully support that move right now. But I think the window is short: about 2-3 weeks to buy, submit and still be able to flip before PSA 10 prices take a beating. If you plan to do it, do it now.

Where Prices Stand

The set launched worldwide on September 16, 2026, per Pokémon’s official announcement, which says there are more than 150 cards to find. The second wave followed on October 2. According to Pokeled and UK retailer tracker Stock-Watch, that wave was the six-pack Booster Bundle and the Mini Tins. Even with all that new supply, the top cards are holding.

Here is where the key singles sit, according to PriceCharting as of October 21, 2026:

30th Celebration: Raw vs. PSA 9 vs. PSA 10

Sealed is holding too. PriceCharting has the Elite Trainer Box at $131 and the Booster Bundle at $73.21. For comparison, Stock-Watch lists the UK Booster Bundle RRP at £24.99.

Why Lugia Is the Card People Are Buying

Lugia #149/147 brings back one of the most famous cards in the hobby, the Aquapolis Lugia. Wargamer reports that original PSA 10s sell for about $81,000, and that ungraded originals have traded between $300 and $800 for years. The new version lets people own that artwork for a fraction of the price, which helps explain why it leads the Classic Collection.

The grading math is what makes it a buy for me right now:

  • PSA 10: $2,025, or about 8.7 times the $233.36 raw price, per PriceCharting.
  • PSA 9: $516.08, more than double raw. Even a 9 comes out ahead of the raw price before fees.
  • Other graders pay a lot less: CGC 10 is $566.48, TAG 10 is $1,075 and SGC 10 is $1,215. BGS 10 is $3,450. For this flip, the PSA label is what you want.

Compare that with Mewtwo ex. Its PSA 10 is $435 against a $53 raw price, so the dollar spread is much thinner. Charizard and Magikarp have bigger multipliers than Lugia, but Lugia gives you a strong PSA 10 price and the best floor if you land a 9.

Why I Think the Grading Window Is Short

Right now, a PSA 10 Lugia is worth about $2,000 because very few exist. That changes as every copy bought in September and October comes back from PSA. As the PSA 10 population grows, there are more sellers chasing the same buyers, and gem prices usually come down.

This set will also produce a lot of copies. PokeBeach reports that a Classic Collection card turns up in 1 of every 10 packs, and calls 30th Celebration the friendliest set for pull rates in the modern era. TCGplayer’s pull rate study found Special Illustration Rares at 1 in 21 packs, compared with 1 in 80 in most Mega Evolution sets. Easy pulls mean a lot of raw copies, and a lot of them will end up at PSA.

There is more product coming too. Pokeled lists further restock waves on November 6 and December 4.

The Grading Costs and Turnaround Problem

Do this math before you buy. According to CardGrade.io, PSA’s new Standard tier went live on September 14 at $59.99 per card. It has a 90-100 business day turnaround and a $1,000 maximum insured value. Another guide, TCGScreener, says PSA paused its Value tiers in June and grading now starts at $59.99.

That creates two problems for a fast Lugia flip:

  1. Declared value. A PSA 10 Lugia sells for about $2,025, which is well over Standard’s $1,000 cap. You may need a higher tier.
  2. Turnaround. At 90-100 business days, cards sent on Standard today would come back months from now. If you want to sell before the population catches up, you will probably need a faster tier, and that costs more.

Here is the rough break-even. A raw Lugia at $233.36 plus fees and shipping still comes in well under the $516.08 PSA 9 price. That is why I like this card for grading. The risk is landing an 8 or lower, which is why buying clean, well-centered copies matters.

Risks

  • Condition. Check the centering, corners and surface on every raw copy before you buy. Listings titled “PSA 10 candidate” are a seller’s opinion, not a grade.
  • Population growth. Every submission makes a PSA 10 more common. That is the whole reason for the deadline.
  • Supply. More product is still coming, and I expect the set to come down at some point. That would pull raw prices down too.
  • Chase cards can fall fast. Insider Gaming reports that the Mew ex Futuristic Rare had already lost about half its price shortly after launch. Early premiums in this set have not been guaranteed.

What I Am Doing

  • Lugia #149, gradable copies: I am buying, and I support doing it now. Buy clean copies and get them to PSA within the next 2-3 weeks, so you can sell before PSA 10 prices take a beating.
  • The rest of the set: I am waiting. Prices are holding after wave 2, but I still expect them to drop. I am not chasing raw singles or sealed at today’s prices.
  • If you are going to grade, do it now. After this window I think the trade gets much harder. Plan your PSA tier around declared value and turnaround, not just the lowest fee.
