XY POKEMON CARDS ON OUR BUY LIST: ONLY JIRACHI XY67A AND MEWTWO EX 163 CLIMB ON REAL SALES
TL;DR: Five XY Pokemon cards sit in the top 15 of our BUY list, up 8 to 16 percent in 30 days. Only two climb on real TCGplayer sales. My call: BUY gradable Near Mint Jirachi XY67a (sold $321.29 to $328.99 in October) and Mewtwo EX 163 in halves, WAIT on the other three. Prices observed October 29, 2026.
The Numbers Behind This Call
- Jirachi XY67a, Alternate Art Promo, raw Near Mint: $295.29 TCGplayer Market Price on October 29, 2026, up 13.0 percent from $261.21 on September 29. October NM sales: $325.00, $328.99, $321.29.
- Mewtwo EX, BREAKthrough 163/162, Secret Full Art, raw Near Mint: $219.54 TCGplayer Market Price on October 29, 2026, up 12.1 percent from $195.90 in the week of September 28. October NM median $215.86 without two $499 sales.
- Lugia EX, Ancient Origins 94/98, Full Art, raw Near Mint: $245.37 TCGplayer weekly Market in the week of October 19, 2026 and $264.86 in the week of October 26, on four sales at $400.16 to $498.98.
- Mewtwo EX, BREAKthrough 164/162, Secret Full Art, raw Near Mint: $218.43 TCGplayer Market Price on October 29, 2026. Nine October NM sales without two $498 prints: median $195.00.
- Pikachu EX XY84, Black Star Promo, raw Near Mint: $91.52 TCGplayer Market Price on October 29, 2026 ($93.45 October 25 to 27). One NM sale in 30 days: $130.00 on October 5.
- Ancient Origins booster box, sealed: $7,995.00 to $8,769.00 on five eBay sales from October 19 to 28, 2026, per PriceCharting.
XY Pokemon cards are climbing while the new sets keep sliding. Five of them sit in the top 15 of our own BUY list as of October 28, 2026: Jirachi XY67a, Lugia EX 94/98 from Ancient Origins, Mewtwo EX 163/162 and 164/162 from BREAKthrough, and Pikachu EX XY84. On our signals page each one is up 8 to 14 percent in 30 days.
Those numbers are TCGplayer Near Mint Market prices, and they match to the cent. But a Market price is an average. On cards that trade one to three Near Mint copies a week, one sale moves it. So I pulled every sale under every number before calling anything.
The result: two of these five are climbing for real. I am BUYING gradable Near Mint copies of Jirachi XY67a and Mewtwo EX 163 in halves. The other three wait.

Jirachi XY67a Sells Above Its Own Market Price
Jirachi XY67a is the strongest card on the list. TCGplayer’s Near Mint Market read $295.29 on October 29, 2026, up 13.0 percent from $261.21 on September 29 and 38.6 percent from $213.12 in the week of July 27. That is the number our signals page printed.
Here is the part the Market hides. All three Near Mint copies that sold on TCGplayer in October cleared ABOVE it: $325.00 on October 6, $328.99 on October 17 and $321.29 on October 22. Back in April, Near Mint copies were selling for $168.00 to $231.92. The Market is still catching up to the sales, not running ahead of them.
Lightly Played copies back it up. Seven of them sold on TCGplayer from October 2 to 23 at $199.99 to $221.53. A card whose played copies hold above $200 is a card with real buyers under it.
The concession: Jirachi already spiked once. Three Near Mint copies sold for $384.99 to $399.95 in the week of August 3, 2026, then it cooled to the $320s. So at $325 I am not buying the bottom. I am buying a card that has held its level for two months while the new sets bled.

Mewtwo EX 163 Climbs Without Its Two $499 Sales
Mewtwo EX 163/162, the BREAKthrough Secret Full Art, read $219.54 on TCGplayer’s Near Mint Market on October 29, 2026, up 12.1 percent from $195.90 in the week of September 28. Two sales did a lot of that lifting. One Near Mint copy sold for $499.87 on October 14 and another for $499.71 on October 25, and the Market jumped on both days.
So I set both aside. The other six Near Mint sales in October ran $172.99 to $325.00, with a median of $215.86. In September, Near Mint copies sold for $160.00 to $194.53. That is a climb that survives without the outliers, and that is what earns this card the second BUY.
It also happens to be one of my favorite cards in the hobby. These BREAKthrough Secret Rares are some of the best artworks ever put on a Mewtwo, and gradable copies are worth sending in. PriceCharting put a PSA 10 at $9,507.00 on October 29, 2026. That gap is why I only want clean, centered Near Mint copies.

Lugia EX 94 Rides Four Sales Over $400
Lugia EX 94/98 has the biggest move on paper. Its TCGplayer weekly Near Mint Market went from $212.33 in the week of September 28 to $245.37 in the week of October 19 and $264.86 in the week of October 26. That is up 15.6 percent to the $245.37 close our signals page used.
Now look at what traded. The last two weekly closes rest on four Near Mint sales between $400.16 and $498.98. Every other Near Mint sale on TCGplayer since August landed between $195.49 and $300.00. On eBay, six raw copies listed as Near Mint sold from October 12 to 23 at a $243.97 median, per PriceCharting.
Underneath, Lugia is flat at $200 to $300. I LOVE the card, but I am not paying for four prints nobody else has matched. WAIT.
Mewtwo EX 164 and Pikachu EX XY84 Have Not Earned It Yet
Mewtwo EX 164/162 shows the same pattern as the Lugia. Its Near Mint Market read $218.43 on October 29, 2026, up 8.6 percent from $201.15 on September 30. Two Near Mint sales at $498.18 on October 12 and $498.10 on October 25 carried that. The other nine October sales had a $195.00 median, right where it sat in September.
Pikachu EX XY84 is thinner still. Its Near Mint Market read $93.45 from October 25 to 27 and $91.52 on October 29, up 12.8 percent from $82.83 on September 30. Exactly one Near Mint copy sold on TCGplayer in that window, at $130.00 on October 5. One sale is not a move.
The longer story on the Pikachu is better than the 30 days. Near Mint copies sold for $55.39 to $99.99 from April to July and for $120.99 and $132.04 in the weeks of August 31 and September 21. That may not be a bad hold at all. It just has not shown me enough sales to buy yet.
What ties the three WAITs together is how little trades. XY Pokemon cards from 2015 and 2016 move one to three Near Mint copies a week on TCGplayer. The gold Charizard ex from Obsidian Flames sold 72 Near Mint copies in the single week of October 19, 2026.
On a card that thin, one buyer paying up can print a number nobody else will match. That cuts both ways… a thin card also climbs fast when real buyers show up. I just want to see more than one or two of them before I put money down.
Are XY Pokemon cards a good investment right now?
Yes, the out of print ones with real sales behind them. As of October 29, 2026, Jirachi XY67a and Mewtwo EX 163 are climbing on TCGplayer Near Mint sales, not just on the Market average. The other three on our list are not there yet.
Here is what nobody else is showing you. Our own signals page prints these five XY Pokemon cards as one climb. On the sale tape, three of them carry October Near Mint prints between $400.16 and $499.87, far above every other Near Mint sale on the same cards, and those prints are what lift the Lugia and the Mewtwo 164. Strip them out and only two cards climb on their own legs.
This is the singles side of the call we made on September 28, when we said the market had broken in two and out of print was the buy. New product keeps sliding. In our October 19 gainers scan, 170 of 244 liquid cards from $50 to $800 fell on TCGplayer in one week, and the regular Mewtwo EX 157/162 Full Art from BREAKthrough was one of the few up, by 13.7 percent. Ten year old cards are where the money is going.
Why Gradable Near Mint, and Why in Halves
Sealed XY is out of reach for most collectors. A sealed Ancient Origins booster box sold for $7,995.00 to $8,769.00 on five eBay sales from October 19 to 28, 2026, per PriceCharting. Nobody is opening that. The way most of us own this era is a clean single.
That is why condition matters so much here. XY Pokemon cards in full art are textured and show edge wear fast. Buy Near Mint copies with photos of the front, back and corners, and skip anything listed only as “pack fresh”. A played copy will not grade, and the grade is where the upside lives.
The spread is the whole reason to be picky. PriceCharting put a PSA 10 Jirachi XY67a at $5,894.00 on October 29, 2026, against Near Mint raw sales in the $320s. You do not need a 10 for this call to work. But a clean copy keeps that door open, and a dinged one closes it for good.
Halves, because the tape is thin. These cards trade one to three Near Mint copies a week on TCGplayer. Buying half now and half after the weekly closes confirm the level keeps one strange sale from setting your average.

I Am Buying Jirachi XY67a and Mewtwo EX 163 in Halves and Waiting on Three
My call is BUY on gradable Near Mint Jirachi XY67a and Mewtwo EX 163/162, in halves. First half of the Jirachi now at $325 or less, second half after two straight weekly TCGplayer Near Mint closes at or above $295.29, each with a real sale. First half of the Mewtwo at $220 or less, second half after two straight weekly closes at or above $219.54, each with a Near Mint sale under $400. Two weekly closes under $272.06 on the Jirachi or $195.90 on the Mewtwo pause the buy. This is a multi year hold.
Lugia EX 94, Mewtwo EX 164 and Pikachu EX XY84 are a WAIT. Each one ends when two straight weekly Near Mint closes hold $245.37, $218.43 and $93.45, with a Near Mint sale under $400 behind each close. I will post the moment one of them flips on our Facebook page.
