ONLY 1,651 RESHIRAM & CHARIZARD GX PSA 10S EXIST AND NO MORE RAINBOWS ARE COMING
TL;DR: We are buyers of the Reshiram & Charizard GX rainbow rare at $225.44 or better. About 1,651 PSA 10 copies exist as of September 11, 2026, the rainbow rarity has been retired since 2023, and a near twin in the same set with a similar population sells for about a quarter of the price.
The Numbers Behind the Call
- Raw, Near Mint, market price $225.44 on TCGplayer, observed September 11, 2026. Raw copies also sold on eBay at $265.38 and $152.50 on August 30, 2026.
- PSA 10 carried a price of $653.95 to $713.24 on September 11, 2026. This is a compiled aggregator figure, not a confirmed individual sale.
- PSA 9 sold on eBay at $233.44 and $178.00 on September 6, 2026 and at $212.50 on September 2, 2026.
- PSA population of about 4,143 graded copies with 1,651 gem mint 10s, a 39.65 percent gem rate, observed September 11, 2026.
- Dedenne-GX 195/214 from the same set, a similar graded population, sold around $183.07 in PSA 10 on September 11, 2026.
- PSA grading at the Regular level costs $79.99 per card with a 70 to 80 business day estimate, observed September 11, 2026. A cheaper Standard level at $59.99 opens September 14, 2026.
The Reshiram & Charizard GX rainbow rare is a buy at today’s price, and the clearest way to see why is to put it next to a card that should be its equal. Dedenne-GX 195/214 came out of the same Unbroken Bonds boxes, at the same odds, from the same print run, and carries a graded population in the same range. On September 11, 2026 that Dedenne-GX sold around $183.07 in PSA 10 while Unbroken Bonds 217/214, Secret Rare, sat at $653.95 to $713.24. Identical printing, a gap of roughly $470, and only one variable between them.
That variable is the name on the card. Charizard is the strongest demand driver the hobby has, and here it is priced against a control card from the same set at roughly three and a half times the money. This is not a projection about what might happen. It is what the market has already been paying for seven years running.
Where you buy matters more than it should on a card this old. On TCGplayer the market price is built from sales completed on that platform, which is why it reads $225.44, while the same raw card changed hands on eBay at $152.50 on August 30, 2026 and at $120.00 on August 25, 2026. Two honest markets, one card, and a spread most buyers never see because they only ever check one of them. None of that changes the case for owning a Reshiram & Charizard GX rainbow rare. It just means a patient buyer pays less for exactly the same thing.

The Supply Side Is Closed for Good
Rainbow rares are not coming back. When the Scarlet & Violet era began, the treatment was cut from the card pool entirely, and the report that broke it on January 18, 2023 was blunt about it: rainbow rares are gone, replaced by Illustration Rares and Special Illustration Rares. Whatever gets printed from here adds nothing to the supply of rainbow rares. Every copy that will ever exist already exists.
Population backs that up. About 1,651 PSA 10 copies of this card existed as of September 11, 2026, against a set of modern chase cards that routinely run far higher. The headline alternate art from Evolving Skies sits above twenty thousand PSA 10 copies. Our Prismatic Evolutions population report shows how fast those counts climb once a modern card becomes a submission target, and this one cannot climb the same way, because the boxes stopped shipping in 2019.
If you would rather buy raw and grade it yourself, run the arithmetic before you send it. PSA charges $79.99 per card at the Regular level as of September 11, 2026, with a 70 to 80 business day estimate, and a cheaper Standard level at $59.99 opens September 14, 2026. At a gem rate of 39.65 percent the likeliest single outcome of any submission is a PSA 9 rather than a PSA 10, which means the grading route rewards a low entry and punishes a high one. Buying a copy that is already graded takes that variable off the table.
Is the Reshiram & Charizard GX Rainbow Rare a Good Investment?
Our answer is yes at $225.44, and the Dedenne-GX comparison is the reason we are comfortable saying so. Two cards, one set, one print run, one pull rate, and a $470 spread that exists only because one of them says Charizard. Nobody else has run that comparison, and it matters because it separates what you are actually buying from the noise. You are not buying scarcity here. You are buying the most durable name in the hobby, attached to a treatment that was discontinued in 2023.
Price around the edges if you are patient. Raw copies of the Reshiram & Charizard GX rainbow traded between $120.00 and $265.38 across eBay and TCGplayer in the three weeks to August 30, 2026, so the same card carries a real spread depending on where you look. Anything at or under the $225.44 market price is a fair entry on our read, and the low end of that range is a good one.
What Would Change Our Mind
Two things, and both are worth watching rather than worrying about. The first is the PSA 10 price itself. The $653.95 to $713.24 figure is a compiled aggregator number and we could not confirm a single dated PSA 10 sale behind it, so treat the ceiling as less certain than the floor. If PSA 10 comps break under $450, the Charizard premium is compressing and our call comes off.
The second is population. A 39.65 percent gem rate is high, which means submissions keep producing tens, and the PSA 10 count is the number to track rather than the price. If it passes 2,500 copies, the scarcity argument thins out and we would want a lower entry to stay interested. Neither of those is close today, and the horizon on this call is years rather than months.
You have seen our number. Would you pay $225 for this card today, or are you waiting for the rainbow rares to move first? Tell us in the comments and name your price.

Buy the Unbroken Bonds Charizard Rainbow at $225 or Better
Our position on the Reshiram & Charizard GX rainbow rare is a buy. You are paying about $225.44 as of September 11, 2026 for a Charizard in the best treatment its era produced, from a print run that closed in 2019, in a rarity that was retired in 2023. The control card from the same set tells you what that name is worth, and the answer is roughly $470 in PSA 10. We would rather own this than most of what is being chased at the same price today.
Our trigger sits in two places. If PSA 10 comps break under $450 or the PSA 10 count passes 2,500 copies, we come off the call and wait. Short of that we are content to hold this one for years and let a retired rarity do what retired rarities eventually do. Come argue the number with us on our Facebook page.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many PSA 10 copies of the Reshiram & Charizard GX rainbow rare exist?
About 1,651 PSA 10 copies out of roughly 4,143 PSA graded copies as of September 11, 2026, a gem rate near 39.65 percent. PSA’s own population report now requires an account, so those figures come from PriceCharting and Card Codex rather than from PSA directly.
Are rainbow rares still being printed?
No. Rainbow rares were removed from the card pool when the Scarlet & Violet era began, reported January 18, 2023, and they have not returned. Every rainbow rare in existence comes from a print run that is now closed.
