Market Snapshot

The numbers paint a clear picture: this is a buyer’s market. Thirty of 35 cards declined over the past seven days, with an average drop of 2.6% across the board. Only five cards posted gains, and they all share something in common—they’re from Scarlet & Violet 151.

Prismatic Evolutions Dominates

Prismatic Evolutions accounts for 17 of the top 35 cards, nearly half the list. The Eeveelution lineup drives much of this dominance, with eight cards featuring Eevee or its evolutions making the rankings. Umbreon ex commands over $1,000, while even Eevee ex sits above $112.

These Pokémon have maintained passionate fanbases for nearly three decades. That kind of staying power suggests their premium pricing isn’t going anywhere soon.

Destined Rivals Cooling Off

The newest Scarlet & Violet set is experiencing what every release eventually faces—the hype bubble deflating. Destined Rivals cards dropped an average of 4.5% this week, the steepest decline among all sets represented.

Team Rocket’s Crobat ex fell 5.7%, while Team Rocket’s Moltres ex shed 5.1%. If you’ve been eyeing these trainer-focused chase cards, waiting another few weeks could save you real money as supply continues entering the market.

The 151 Exception

While everything else trends downward, Scarlet & Violet 151 stands alone with gains. All five of its cards in the top 35 moved higher, led by Venusaur ex at +2.1%. These Generation 1 nostalgia plays appear to have found stable price floors, supported by collectors who grew up with the original 151 Pokémon in the late 1990s.

What Buyers Should Consider

The holiday season typically brings increased selling pressure as people liquidate cards for gift money, followed by buying activity in January when collectors receive cash. Timing purchases around these patterns could stretch your budget.

Destined Rivals likely has further to fall. Prismatic Evolutions Eeveelutions offer the safest long-term value. And 151 cards represent perhaps the best current proposition—proven demand with prices holding steady against the broader pullback.
